追悼梅艾美姊妹

Amy McLean, 2008

Amy came to our 2nd Chinese Language Class back in 2004. Stayed with the Honolulu Chinese Congregation for a couple of years before moving to China. According to my wife, Amy's health wasn't that great already. I found her very spiritually mature and a pleasure to work with in the field ministry. Her funeral service is on April 11, 2016. Kapolei Kingdom Hall 6PM. We are going to miss you, Amy!

Nobody wants to talk about death, the Chinese are no exception. Here are some expressions in Chinese that are related to the dreaded subject.

Death is 死亡.

He/She is dead: 他死了.

He/She passed the way: 他過世了.

He was called to see his creator: 蒙主寵召. Of course a christian wouldn't say that.

R.I.P (Rest in peace): 安息.

Sleep in death: 長眠.

Funeral: 喪禮.

Memorial service: 追悼會. Some people use 告別式, which is incorrect because it's actually Japanese Kanji, NOT Chinese.

Burial: 葬禮.

Resurrection: 復活. Easter in Chinese is 復活節.

He will be resurrected: 他會復活 or 他會復活過來. There is absolutely no need to use 被 as in 他會被復活. The character 被 usually has something to do with bad or unfortunate things so it would sound awkward to say 他會被復活, which has the meaning of "He will be forced to come back to life, whether he likes it or not."

Everlasting life: 永生.

理髮匠看了看他，就說："你是剛從別的地方來的吧！"
馬克吐溫說："是的。" 理髮匠說："你的運氣真好。今天晚上馬克吐溫要在這裡演講。你可以去聽聽！"
馬克吐溫說："好，我也去聽。"
理髮匠又說："不過，坐位票已經沒有了。你只好站著聽了。"
